Our four feature homes are in Laurel, Magee, Flowood, and Mound Bayou. One of my favorite hats to wear with publishing this magazine is to photograph the feature homes and meet the homeowners. This issue was no exception in that each home is spectacular in its own way, and the homeowners all truly welcomed us into their homes with our famous Mississippi hospitality. On page 112 and on the inside back cover are non-profit organizations that would love your support. They fill a tremendous void in our communities and change lives for the people they serve. Also remember the Junior League of Jackson’s Mistletoe Marketplace is November 7-10 at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson. Join in the holiday shopping and support a good case while you are having fun! Remember, you can subscribe to Stages® MISSISSIPPI here. Subscribers receiveRead the Issue
It is during this time of the year when we walk outside and say, “Whew, the humidity doesn’t seem as bad today. It’s a miracle.” Or as you can see by the above photos that it was miracle we got a somewhat decent shot of me and the dogs! At football games fans will mumble, “It will be a miracle if we pull this off and win this game.” And in the publishing world when we get to the end of putting an issue together we will sometimes say, “It will be a miracle if we actually go to print on time.” We all use the term miracle pretty loosely. Hang in here with me, I am going somewhere with this… I felt led to share that I am finding more and more that God is still in the miracleRead the Issue
Most of us do actually turn to water for a sense of calm and clarity. We spend our vacations on the beach, by a pool, or at a lake. We get exercise and enjoyment from water sports like boating, sailing, swimming, and fishing. The special focus section in this issue is Family Living & Summer Escapes, which touches on all of the above. We have brought you a charter fishing trip at the coast and two gorgeous backyards—one in Magee, and one in Brookhaven. We hope this focus brings you an idea for a family vacation or ideas for a stay-cation in your own backyard. And as always, be sure to check out and support the local businesses featured throughout the issue in the ads and in the promotional spotlights. These advertisers are the reason Stages MS is so wonderful!Read the Issue
I absolutely love being outdoors. This is the time of the year where my garden comes to life and I am able to get out and enjoy tending to it. It also reminds me of one of my favorite sayings, “bloom where you are planted.” Like a flower that grows through a crack in the concrete, sometimes we have to be strong enough to flourish and produce something beautiful no matter what the situation is. In this issue our special focus is Bring on the Outdoor Living. We have a beautiful pool and garden area to show you, an outdoor living area, and an exquisite backyard pool. We hope this focus brings you ideas to incorporate into your own home. This issue, we again bring four homes with different styles: colorful, historic, the St. Jude Dream Home, and a farmhouseRead the Issue
Last week, my two dogs and I escaped what could have been a terrible catastrophe, and just like the inconvenience of this snow and ice, it has made me think deeply about life in general. I am very blessed to be here today doing this job, a job that I find satisfying and rewarding in so many ways. Homeowners welcome me into their homes with a smile and with true southern hospitality for to take photos and interview them. As we “ooh” and “ahh” over their homes, let’s remember what really makes these houses special—the owners themselves. The feature homes in this issue are all incredibly diverse and are furnished in different styles and tastes. We have amazing before and after features in the focus section and several promotional features for you to enjoy. Remember, you can subscribe to Stages®Read the Issue
Every one of us has a God-given talent. Some know early in life what their talent is, and some, well, it takes a little while for us to figure it out! I have found that mine is to bring beautiful photographs and stories of fabulous homes and gardens throughout our great state of Mississippi to our readers. These homes are occupied by people in all stages of their lives—from first homes to retired couples. They range from small cabins by a lake to expansive homes in the middle of the city. We have a wonderful 2018 year planned at Stages® MISSISSIPPI and can’t wait to show you these homes all around Mississippi. To close, if I can give one piece of advice to anyone that might listen, it would be this: In Jeremiah 29:11, it says, “For I know theRead the Issue
The holiday seasons are upon us and, for many, this is the time of the year we think about what we are most thankful for and ponder the true meaning of Christmas. We have put together a very special focus section for you, Entertaining at Home, which contains beautifully decorated homes for the holidays. My family also loves to decorate our home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but as much as I do love Santa Claus and presents under the tree, let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11). On the inside back cover are four non-profit organizations that would love your support. They fill a tremendous void in our communities and change lives for the people they serve.Read the Issue
In this issue, our focus section is Fabulous Kitchens and Baths . Wait until you see them! We don’t call them “fabulous” for nothing. We were blessed with the opportunity to photograph beautiful homes and speak with local interior designers, architects, and contractors to pull together this issue that I know our readers will hold on to for years to come. And as always, we visited Starkville, Oxford, Hattiesburg, and Cleveland for the perfect layout of tailgating at home. Sometimes, there is just no better place to party than in your home with your loved ones. You can find scrumptious finger food with the Bulldogs, beautiful outdoor tailgating with the Rebels, delicious southern comfort food with the Golden Eagles, and Tex-Mex with the Fighting Okra.Read the Issue
Our Focus section in the summer issue is Family Living & Summer Escapes. Featured in this section is a fabulous pool area, a family area at Sunnybrook Children’s Home, and a feature on coastal living. I’d like to elaborate on Sunnybrook Children’s Home. Since 1963, it has served as a residential group home for children who have been physically, mentally, and emotionally abused and rescued from their parents through the court system. Sunnybrook is designed for children aged 6–18 and provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with house parents to cater to their needs. Sunnybrook’s services foster the development of morality, responsibility, and spiritual strength through a belief in God where children are taught to hope and trust again. Without community support, Sunnybrook would cease to be in a position to help the children they areRead the Issue
