Spring—we’ve been waiting on you! Spring is a season of warming, longer days, and nature coming back to life. As the flowers bloom and animals are born, it reminds me of the beauty and innocence that exists in this world. Spring provides a reminder to us that we should be living a full life and leaving the old dead parts of life behind. There is always hope during the coldest, darkest winters of life. Spring will come again and new life will emerge!

I’m a worrier by nature. I try my hardest not to be, but when things don’t go as planned, I to try to “fix” them first. Then I always turn to one of my favorite passages: “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his life’s span? And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin” Matthew 6: 26-28. Bring it on spring. And I’m going to cast all my anxiousness and worries away!

We hope you enjoy the feature stories, editorials, and promotional articles in this issue. Included are High Point Market style stories, a few fabulous homes, a conference room in a church, an outdoor area, and an update of the Carthage motel. Mississippians are simply the best at sharing their homes with us so our readers can enjoy them.

As we are finishing this issue, a cold front has appeared and winter seems to be on its way. The days are getting shorter and the nights longer. It’s no secret I’m not a fan of winter. I love the long summer days, even with the hot temperatures. The beach and my yard are my therapy, and winter’s weather means I have to put those pleasures on hold. Malcolm Woody has an interesting take on winter in his article on page 109. I’m going to try my best to put winter in its right place in my heart this year.

Our homes in this issue are completely different from each other. We have a few new construction homes, a home that has been through two extensive remodels, and an update on a project we are following. I realize I write about this frequently, but the hospitality of Mississippians is just absolutely the best! One homeowner prepared a lovely lunch while I was taking photos and another one just kept telling me how wonderful Stages MISSISSIPPI® was and how much of an honor it was to have her home showcased in it.

I know the holidays can be hard for some, and for others they are delightful. Whatever the season of life you are in, the family at Stages MISSISSIPPI® wishes you all a blessed holiday season filled with joy and happiness and also a hope that it brings you peace.

As we are finishing this — the 15th anniversary issue — it’s still hot outside, but soon the days will be cooler. School will have started back, football season will be in full swing, and the deciduous trees will begin to lose their leaves in preparation for winter. I am always reminded of this verse: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Seasons of life change. Sometimes these changes are for the better. Other times, they are just hard. Wisdom would have us to not only expect these changes, but embrace them as par for the course. Adapt. The peaceful heart learns to accept what the Creator has woven into the fabric of life. Remember that the Creator is also a loving Father.

We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we have putting it together for you. Thank you for reading!

Summer. Oh, how I love you! It’s my favorite season. I love the longer days because it allows me to be outdoors and do the things I enjoy the most. Gardening has always been a passion of mine and I've always been drawn to the water, especially during late afternoons and sunsets. Planting flowers, shrubs, trees, and vegetables and watching them grow has always amazed me. Maybe it’s the deep-rooted farmer’s daughter in me. Maybe it’s just watching the fruits of my labor come to fruition. Whatever the reason, I love it.

This issue has five beautiful home features, and each one is very different from the other. Each issue I am reminded of how different we are, especially in our homes and home decor. But at the same time, Mississippians are truly the most humble, generous, and hospitable people. They welcome us into their homes and allow us to take photos and share their stories with you. We are grateful and blessed.

Enjoy this summer 2023 issue!

Stages Mississippi Magazine • Spring 2023

Well, hello spring—you couldn’t have come soon enough! This time of the year is one of my favorites as the products of the seeds and bulbs that we planted in the winter start emerging. Nature has always amazed me, especially the awakening and growth in the spring. It reminds me of the parable in scripture when Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in a field, and this is smaller than all other seeds but when it is fully grown, it is larger than the garden plants, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and rest in its branches” Matthew 13:31–32. Planting seeds in the ground for our enjoyment is fruitful and beautiful in our eyes, but remember to plant seeds in the hearts of your friends, coworkers, family, and even strangers you meet. God will do the rest, our job is just to plant the seeds.

This spring issue is packed full of informative promotional articles and lovely homes and gardens. We are constantly amazed and humbled at the generosity of the residents in Mississippi that open their homes and gardens to us so we can bring them to you. We are grateful and blessed, and we thank you.

Stages Mississippi Magazine • Winter 2022/2023

Well, here you are winter 2022/2023. I hope you decide to be nice to Mississippi, but according to the Farmers’ Almanac winter weather forecast, most of the country, including Mississippi, will experience below-average temperatures. The publication went on to say it will be a roller coaster of a winter, and it will be a season of shaking, shivering, and shoveling. We’ve had record high temperatures and torrential flooding in August with hardly any rain in September and October, so I guess we should all brace for a long winter and enjoy the beauty of the snow and ice!

While you are snuggled up by the fireplace, be sure to browse through our ultimate resource guide and call these businesses to fulfill your wish list!

The family at Stages MIssissippi wishes you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Stages Mississippi Magazine • Fall 2022

Welcome fall 2022! This particular season seems to always remind me that sometimes the seasons in our life change as often as the weather. Soon we will notice autumn colors beginning to appear, and the deciduous trees will start dropping their leaves. Every year this reminds me of the verse Ecclesiastes 1:1. “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.” Some seasons in our lives are exceptionally good, and some are hard. We can only expect these changes, adapt, and learn to accept what the Creator has woven onto the fabric of our lives.

I have friends that have downsized in their housing and several that have bought larger houses. Just like my friends, each homeowner we feature has their own story, and they have all walked a different path in life than the others. I love our state of Mississippi and how different our people are, yet we have so many similarities.

Enjoy this beautiful fall 2022 issue that we enjoyed preparing for you!
